Civil War carte-de-visite [picture], [between 1861 and 1865].

Carte de visite of Charles C. Meservey, a resident of Milwaukee, Wisconsin who served as colonel of the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery Regiment during the Civil War. The image depicts Meservey in front of a painted backdrop wearing a frock coat and leaning on a cavalry sword. Before the war, Meservey worked as a foreman in Milwaukee. He enlisted in 1861 with Company A, 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery, and after several promotions held the rank of colonel of the entire regiment before mustering out in 1865. After the war, Meservey moved to New York and worked as a publisher in the newspaper industry. He died in 1888 and is buried in Pennsylvania.
